To convince visually, in form and content, functionally and technically, to illustrate the high quality standards and to position the "Team Sallermann" as a unique team in the field of horticulture and landscaping in Germany.
Admittedly, I'm a fan of Stephan Sallermann and his team.
Already in 2006, the gardeners and landscapers had transformed our outdoor area, which resembled a gravel desert,
into an oasis.
At the same time the website was created, about which we have already briefly
reported.
That this site endured for such a long time - in the Internet age (almost) 10 years are an eternity -
is certainly owed the comprehensive and well-structured content preparation.
Thoughts on the implementation of a new website
Well, on the one hand there were "technical" reasons to deal with the new development of the website.
The maintenance of the pages was done with "Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003".
The expiration date for the mainstream support of this software was the April 14, 2009, the expiration date for the extended support
April 8, 2014.
But there were still much more serious reasons for breaking new grounds:
-
No support of responsive design, so that a good readability and handling
was not given for the different devices.
-
No reasonable possibility of flexible content expandability.
-
No search functionality within the website.
-
No further functions for individualization (e.g. personal area after registration).
-
Use of Adobe Flash animations, which are only supported limited and their use is "controversial".
In positive a new website should
-
convince visually, in form and content, functionally and technically,
-
illustrate the high quality standards and
-
position the "Team Sallermann" as a unique team in the field of horticulture and landscaping in Germany.
The road to the new website
The gardening and landscaping lends itself to inspire and to convince with impressions and images.
But what is a nice idea on the one hand, can quickly arise to major challenges in the context of the first concrete implementation scenarios.
How can over 800 shots that Stephan Sallermann had made over the years and managed in a folder structure,
be processed media-friendly for use in a website? What are service categories?
What content should be presented at all? How significant are the different content areas?
Which technologies can be used to allow an adequate implementation?
Many questions, many answers – but first things first.
The processing of the images
About 800 unedited shots, stored in a single-folder structure,
which reflected a rough classification by service categories.
Numerous recordings visualized several service categories and numerous recordings were included in multiple folders.
Capture, edit, tag and structure, export, process and incorporate into the target database -
these were the necessary and with substantial effort and expense associated activities,
in order to create the prerequisite for a presentation on the Internet.
To optimize loading speeds the images are provided in two resolutions.
In addition, these are loaded dynamically when scrolling down on a web page with numerous pictures.
A special highlight is the gallery view, which is opened by clicking on a picture.

The team and showcases
At Sallermann the employee plays an important role.
Because he ultimately decides by his devotion and his appearance at the customer about success or failure of a project.
This explains the strong positioning of this area in the new website.
Prerequisite for implementation were numerous visits of construction sites and the taking of beautiful impressions while working.
At this point we would like to say a special thanks to all employees from the team Sallermann for the great cooperation.

The database
In more than 33 tables and 20 views all relevant information is managed in a structured way.
The consistency of data is ensured by
referential integrity.

Multilingualism
All content is provided both in German and in English.
This is essentially due to the claim to be "visible" also beyond the regional boundaries.
The website
Certainly, much more could be reported from a "design and developer point of view" about this modern website.
But enough preamble.
